Ah, hello! Feels like it’s been awhile. Today’s definitely a perfect day for a irrelevant chatter post. Come into my world for a minute 🙂
First of all, thank you thank you THANK YOU for all the amazing comments on my Chicago Marathon recap posts. Even though they took forever to compose, the positive responses I’ve received made ever minute spent well worth it.
Today was my first run since 10/9/11. I have to admit, I’ve really enjoyed taking the week off of running. Initially I held off so that my body could recover. By Thursday, I was feeling back to baseline, but still decided to extend my rest period for a few more days. Whats a few more days? Yesterday, though beautiful outside, the sustained 30 mph winds were killer. So instead of hitting the streets, I hit up Anytime Fitness with the hubs. I got in some good cardio via the elliptical and stationary bike, followed by some light weight training. It was a nice way to ease back into my routine. Plus that way I was able to watch my Spartans kick some Wolverine butt. Go Green!
This morning, after waking up with some Spotify and a cup of coffee, I leisurely laced up my kicks. For some reason, a 10K sounded like an enjoyable distance to strive for. Don’t ask me why. As soon as I started running down my driveway, I could tell things were going to go well. The weather was fantastic – high 50’s, a mix of sun & clouds, and a light breeze. A perfect fall day. I logged my first mile in 8:52 and from there was determined to maintain a sub- 9 min/mi pace. My breathing was controlled. My legs felt amazing. And my pace continued to improve. My splits: 8:31/ 8:34/ 8:34/ 8:34/ 8:33/ 8:28. Now as I sit here, feeling refreshed and all endorphin-y, all I can think about is when is my next 26.2?? At least I have next week’s BOMF 42K relay and the Monumental 1/2 Marathon on 11/5/11 to keep my mind occupied. For now 🙂
Speaking of fall, I have a serious craving for some cider mill/ pumpkin patch action. Problem is, there aren’t many options here in Indiana. I feel like in Michigan there were options on every corner. Yates, Blakes, Uncle John’s. I miss that availability. I did find a pumpkin patch not too far away from our house, so depending on the course of the afternoon, I may take a drive. I mean, how good do cider and donuts sound right about now?? I should make sure I have some mulling spices too,, mmmm.
Do y’all celebrate Sweetest Day? I honestly had no idea it was this weekend until my cousin reminded me earlier this week. She had asked me if it we celebrated it in Indiana or if it was just a Michigan holiday. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it is nationally celebrated. Well, at least by those who partake in such “Hallmark Holidays.” I remember the first year the hubs and I were dating, after reminding and reminding and reminding him some more not to forget, he “surprised” me with a little stuffed dog that we aptly named Snuffles. I’m LOL-ing just thinking about the absurdity of it all. Why I felt the need for him to express his love on such a silly occasion is beyond me. During a long overdue SOTP dinner on Tuesday night (which was fabulous by the way), Brad, Meggie, Mendy and I had a brief discussion about our feelings towards Valentine’s Day. Though the overall consensus was that it was another unnecessary holiday that makes all single people feel bad about themselves, I disagreed. I should clarify. To some degree, I feel the same about V-Day as I do about S-Day. But I think I have a softer spot for V-Day given that it’s the day after my birthday. And I like hearts. And pink. And for those reasons, all days in February are okay in my book.
What other useless info can I
bore entertain you with? Work this week was nice. Not too crazy. Not many late nights. Us NPs had a lunch outing with our boss the other day to discuss how things have been going. We had a few questions for him, including scheduling options, intra-office communication, and overtime. We all felt like the discussion went well. Not to mention lunch at Puerto Vallarta was amazing as always. When asked what the one thing was that we would change about our job, we all responded the same: 4 10-hour shifts. With another new NP position about to be filled, I feel like our chances of getting the 4-day schedule are improving by the day. Fingers crossed! I would really love that extra day off during the week.
Well, time to zip the lip, snuggle up and watch some Sunday football. I’m thinking the cider mill outing may be postponed after all. Happy Sunday, friends.
