I’ve come to the realization that without as much running in my life, my blogging habits have taken a major hit. I think it’s time for me to reconfigure what I want my blog to consist of. Though running has become a huge part of my life, there are still many many other facets of it, all of which deserve much more attention than they’ve been getting. So while running will still be a feature on NwaP, be on the lookout for a shift in focus towards ” the other stuff.” 🙂
Now, for a fun “Life” recap!
This past weekend, the hubs and I went up to Michigan. A couple months back, our family friend Aron asked us if we were interested in tickets to the MSU/ IU football game in East Lansing. Um, duh! He has season tickets and with me being a MSU grad and the hubs an IU Med School alum, he knew we would be eyeing this game. So even though we had plans to go to Michigan the following week (aka. this week) for Thanksgiving, we made a pre-road trip road trip on Friday!
After loading up with Tim Hortons, Mom, Dad, Aron, the hubs and I were on the the road to E.L. by 830a. An hour and a half later, we arrived on campus and immediately my college memories came flooding back. Oh, how I love this city. This campus. This atmosphere. All that is Michigan State University. Hard to believe it’s been almost 8 years since graduation.
Plan was to grab brunch at Dublin Square before heading to the stadium, but there was too long of a wait (& rightfully so ~ what an awesome looking place). Instead, we headed across the street to the ever faithful Harper’s, where we partook in a free breakfast buffet, a bloody mary + a beer. When in Rome.
It was a brisk morning, so bundled up we were as we made the walk across campus to Spartan Stadium.
And someone bravely decided to sport his IU gear.
Only minimal heckling was involved (mostly by yours truly) 😉
The game started off with a fairly prompt MSU field goal.
By halftime, the score was 34-3. And the handsome man in red next to me got pretty quiet.
But we continued to have fun despite the annihilation.
There were lots of touchdown dances performed (please ask to see my personalized version. It’s very impressive and I’m a big fan of performing for others) as well as plenty of hearing of the MSU fight song.
We even enjoyed a hot dog and a hot chocolate.
After the 3rd quarter, we decided that we were sufficiently cold enough and that since MSU was probably going to win, we would be safe to start thinking about heading out. So we did just that,, after listening to my favorite part of the football game: the drumline performance by the MSU Marching Band. Always amazing. Enjoy below.
Division CLINCHED! Sorry honey, I still love you and your country boy roots 🙂
We made a few post-game stops for some MSU gear. I found this gem.
Sadly, the hat did not come home with me. But I did have fun posing in it!
We were all pooped on the drive home. Some of us slept, others played solitaire. A few hours later, we were back in Troy,, and all famished. We whipped up a completely random mess of food, including Rice-A-Roni, sauerkraut, and hot apple cider & brandy. Again, when in Rome!
After an episode of Dexter, the hubs and I suited up and drove over to our friend Zac and Carli’s house. Our other friends Marc and Kelly were there too and both couples had their babies in tow! I have been dying to meet the new additions for 6 months now, and boy did I love on them.
Doesn’t mommyhood looks good on me? 😉
After B & V bottle time, we enjoyed pizza, adult beverages and gossip mags, while the boys had a dart tournament, per usual.
Always fun with friends!
The rest of the weekend was great. Running, shopping, & dining with the fam. I can never get enough of the simple things. And luckily, we will be right back to the mitten this Wednesday after one more day of work. Can I get a hip hop hooray for 2 day work weeks??!
Next up: Thanksgiving & the Turkey Trot 10k recap! Damn, there goes that whole first paragraph.
