Another week has come and gone. And oddly enough, I’m kinda happy to see this one go. The guts of the week was consumed with work stress beyond epic proportions. Leaving me both mentally and physically exhausted. I had a short break on Thursday in the form of a hair appointment followed by dinner with some of my favorite mamas. But Friday came storming in strong, taking no prisoners. It couldn’t even be thwarted by the Sussy I received in the Starbucks drive-thru! Sad face. Once my day from hell came to a close, I spent the rest of the evening recovering the best way I know how: snuggled up in a sweatshirt&shorts, in front of the boob tube, Summer Shandy in hand.
Saturday morning was spent with the Perfect Strangers. Jaime, Kelly, Meggie, Meghan, Christi and I met on the Monon and for a pre-dawn half marathon. This was my first run since the previous Sunday as I had been taking a bit of a break due to some right foot pain (seriously, can I catch a break on the injury front?). I wasn’t sure how well my foot would hold up with a 2 hour run, so my expectation bar was set low. We set on our way at 6a and were met (once again) with thick air and humidity that had us sweating bullets within minutes. At mile 4, we sought a bit of reprieve at the local McDonald’s where we refilled our water bottles and soaked up the free A/C.
As we turned and headed back north, we all came to the conclusion that the 13 miles we had intended to run were not extremely important to any of us. Especially given the conditions. Some of the girls had ran their second (!) twenty miler last weekend so this was step-back week, which typically tends to be harder than the longer runs. Fortunately, my foot was behaving itself, but my energy levels were shot. I blame the lack of short runs + Mother Nature. But we sucked it up and ran on. We chatted about the Olympics and laughed about Charles Barkley. We were passed by a (roller)blader and nearly got ran off the road by a garbage man in a golf cart. As we approached the starting point at mile 8, we collectively decided we had a few more miles in us. So we jogged (with a silent J). One mile up, and one mile back. Our motivation came a bit too late, but once we hit mile 10, all of us except Kelly decided that enough was enough. 10 is the new 13 anyway, haven’t you heard?
I spent most of the rest of the gloomy day in Indy. After cleaning up at Jaime’s, we hit up Keystone at the Crossing with the boys, scoring some fabulous deals in preparation for our fabulous upcoming Perfect Stranger Vegas Vacation (less than 2 weeks!). A brief T-storm later, I arrived back home around 5, subsequently slipping into a 3 hour couch coma. An exhausting but fun day.
This morning, I woke up bright and early, though my body was uber confused due to the erratic sleep schedule I had it on. I checked Twitter per usual, and saw that the women’s Olympic marathon was on! So downstairs I went, making myself a cup of joe and an Biscoff english muffin (London, duh). I spent the next hour or so engrossed in the speed and sheer determination of these elite women, all of whom provide me with inspiration/motivation beyond belief. Shortly after the race, I was on my way to the gym to knock out my very own workout.
Speaking of workouts, I’ve been meaning to tell y’all that over the last two weeks I have been participating in Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp! Tina is a blogger/ personal trainer who put together a great 8-week training program for people of all fitness levels who are interested in training in a fun new way. Most days consist of a strength training portion and a cardio option and different workouts are sent to participants every week. No workout is the same, which is like heaven to me given my predisposition to boredom when it comes to XT. Plus there is a check-in document to keep track of your workouts and enroll you in the lottery for prizes! Overall it’s just a different way to keep me motivated, and so far I’m loving every bit of it!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday! Feel free to tell me what fun things you did this weekend 🙂 xo.
