This week, I’ve done a complete 180 from the last. Instead of feeling down and out, I’ve felt great! And thank goodness because I’m not sure I could handle a whole lot more of the constant sickness. Everyone keeps telling me that lots of sickness = a very healthy baby. But at the rate I was going, we would’ve had some sort of prodigy on our hands! ;)

I don’t think I’ll do this every week, but today I’m going to give you the stats of what a week 16 baby should “look” like and how things are going behind the scenes!

  • Baby is the size of an avocado, measuring 4.6″ long and weighing 3.5 ounces.
  • Bones are forming in the ears, taste buds are developing and hair is growing (head, lashes, and eyebrows).

As for Mama, physically I’m starting to “pop.” Out of habit, I find myself walking around sucking in my belly more often than not. But when I let it loose, beware of the bump!! I’ve had a number of people comment on the bump debut, especially at work. And as I was standing in the kitchen last night reading a magazine at the counter, Nick stops in his tracks and says, “Wow, you’re really showing! Baby!” Yes, dear.

Besides the physical changes, I don’t feel like I’ve really changed that much. Hormones are at bay. No significant blow ups that I can remember. Guess you should ask the people around me for another perspective ;)

Since I’ve been feeling so well, I’ve been doing my best to keep busy. I started things off with a long overdue reunion with the SOTP crew, Meggie, Mendy, and Brad. It had been over a year since our last dinner! We gathered at Peterson’s Restaurant and spent the entire time catching up, telling stories, and laughing nonstop over delicious eats. So much fun was had and hopefully not much time will lapse between our next meeting.

The rest of the week was generally uneventful, as most of my winter weeks seem to be. Work kept me busy during the day and therefore most evenings were spent cozied up by the fire. I once spent these nights with a glass of wine in hand, but lately my drink of choice has been either H2O or Sprite. Fine by me!

Yesterday I tried my hand at my first prenatal class at the gym. I turned out to be the only person who showed up, so I had a little one-on-one session with the instructor. A little awkward, but not too bad overall. Lots of squatting, arm exercises, and stretching. But it definitely didn’t get me sweating. Too slow-flow for my taste. I followed up the class by jumping on the elliptical for a half hour just to feel like I did something. I suppose when I’m further along in my pregnancy, this class will be a good option. But until then I’ll stick with what works.

This morning I went back to the gym: my first two-day stretch in I can’t even tell you how long! Half hour on the elliptical and another 45 minutes with the weights left me feeling good. And like a healthy pregnant person should feel! I’m hoping to do a little running soon, but the thought of the treadmill is nauseating. I’ll wait for spring.

And it’s a good thing I got my sweat on earlier because I don’t plan on much activity for the remainder of the day. It’s a beautiful, snowy, Superbowl Sunday and I’m already in cozies waiting for the pizza man by the fire :)
