We’ve hit the midway mark!
As of Tuesday, Baby Cook is officially 20 weeks old.
According to my sources at The Bump, baby weighs ~ 10.2 ounces and is measuring 6.5 inches. That’s the size of a banana!
Baby’s got working taste buds and is gulping down all kinds of amniotic fluid. Guess that’s why my docs keep harping at me to drink lots of water. I’m doing my best, but I miss my triple grande soy lattes!
As for mama, I’ve actually been feeling really well (woop woop!). My energy is higher than it’s been in months, so I’ve been trying to be much more active (hitting the gym at least 3d/wk + prenatal dvds). I’ve still not ran since December and at this point, my guess is that I won’t be starting til after peanut has arrived. I miss it terribly, but I’m okay with the break. My proportions right now are just not amenable to that kind of movement 😉 My appetite has also been amazing and I’ve finally gained some weight. Now I know what eating for two feels like!
If I had to name one challenge, it’s been sleeping. Not so much the act of it, but the process of getting comfortable. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a cozy position in bed. They tell you not to lay on your back too much (it compresses the vena cava, which is responsible for returning blood from the lower body to your heart), so I’ve been trying to sleep on my side as much as possible. As a prior tummy sleeper, this isn’t overly easy. And with a belly that’s showing no signs of getting smaller, the tummy position is now officially out of the question. Luckily my friend, Nadia, brought her Snoogle to work today for me to borrow. She claims it was a lifesaver for her during her pregnancy. I’m looking forward to giving it a go! 🙂
Speaking of sleep, I’m still taking my Unisom and Vitamin B6 prior to bed. The last time I tried stopping, my nausea/vomiting returned with a vengance. Question for Mamas: when did you stop taking these meds? Did you have to wean yourself off?
I’m thrilled the nausea is gone. But the belly? Yup, it’s here to stay. July or bust!!
Oh! And I’ve officially been feeling movement of my little one! It’s kind of a strange sensation and I honestly wasn’t sure the feelings were legit kicks at first (I initially felt them around 18 weeks). I liken them to a fluttering and very resemblant of gas, ha! I notice it most when I’m sitting still at night and often times baby dances me right to sleep. I can’t say I hate it 😉
My next OB appointment is in 2 weeks, and the following day is my official ultrasound! I’m so excited to see our little peanut again. Again, even though it’s the “anatomy scan,” we are NOT finding out what we’re having (unless baby decides to spread eagle in front of the camera or something). It’s exciting, terrifying, and amazing and I still have a hard time believing that in just over 4 months (138 days to be exact) we will be parents. Guess I should get registering!! Baby needs a place to sleep!
Til next time, xo!
