Goodness gracious, you are two months old !!
I had a hard time adjusting when you turned one month. And now two?! Time and I need to have a little chat because it’s going a little too fast for my liking.
Where should I start? Well, for one, Daddy and I are definitely starting to see your little personality shine through. You started giving us intentional smiles around week 6, leading us to believe that you are going to be one happy little boy. Well I take that back, you already are quite happy. Even though we continue to request that you tell us what you want (your cries still aren’t very specific), we can tell you’re trying. Especially over the past few days. Your grunts are turning into little unintelligible words that we will someday understand. And I’ve definitely heard more squealing and cooing out of you! It’s exciting to think that in the not so distant future you’ll be chatting up a storm. But for now, we will enjoy the non-talking version of you 😉
Sleeping. Wowee! You have always been pretty impressive on the snoozing front, but over the last 4 weeks things have gotten even better – if that’s possible! We moved you into your crib at 5 weeks (8/23/13) and you transitioned perfectly. The first night you slept in your room, your Grandma and Grandpa Cook were babysitting while Mommy and Daddy went to Mama Carolla’s for their anniversary. I was a little sad I wasn’t the one who put you to bed, but when I came home to see your cute little burrito butt on the video monitor, I knew you’d be fine.
Since the big move, the middle of the night feedings have decreased drastically. Right now at 8 1/2 weeks, you are getting up once a night, if that. In fact, you have slept through the night on many more than one occasion. YAY! Such a good boy. At first it was terrifying and even though I knew you were asleep, I still didn’t get much because I was constantly checking on you. But now that I know you’ll call when you need me, I sleep much more soundly. You sometimes wake as early as 6, but other times you sleep til 9! You’re also going to bed a little earlier, and pretty much without a bottle. Routines they are a-forming!
You’re still not big on napping in your crib, which I hope will change soon so Mommy can get things done while you rest. Having said that, I still love snuggling with you during the day and as long as you’ll let me, I’ll continue to do so. I know I’ll miss these days eventually – probably too soon.
Before moving on from the sleep topic, I have to remind you of possibly the scariest moment of Mommy’s mommyhood life. The time when, after putting you to bed a solid half hour earlier, I turned on the video monitor to find you FACE DOWN in your crib (9/15/13). I proceeded to sprint into your room where I thankfully found you half awake and breathing fine. I panicked for awhile, trying to figure out how I should have you sleep, since you were swaddled with your arms by your side when you rolled. Should I keep your arms out? Should I lose the swaddle all together?? I decided to keep you swaddled, but to put your arms up across your chest like I had been doing all along (why we changed positions that night I’m not sure, but we definitely won’t be going back). I had a fairly sleepless night that night, checking on you quite frequently, but per usual, you did perfectly fine. I guess you’re just preparing me for all the terrifying things you’ll be doing everyday of your life from here on out!
PS, who rolls from their back to their belly at 8 weeks?? You do, my prodigy son :-*
You continue to be a good eater, which pleases Mommy. One big thing that has changed this month is your poop! I know, I know, c’mon Mom! Sorry, but I HAVE to talk about it! Early on you were pooping daily, usually multiple times a day. Well, during our trip to Michigan, suddenly you stopped. And you went nearly three whole days without one! Well, of course, this had Mommy worried and she did some research, only to find that this is [strangely] completely normal for breastfed babies. It has something to do with the way the milk is digested in your system, so around 6-8 weeks of age, poop can be expected only once or twice a week! Sounds crazy, but it’s true. The longest you’ve gone so far without a poop is five days. And though we can see you start to get a little agitated and gassy after a few says sans poop, you act perfectly normal. Nothing a few mylicon drops won’t solve. Mommy never thought she’d like the sight of poop as much as she does when she sees it in your diaper nowadays 😉
What else,,, on the physical side of things, you are growing like a weed. Well, in our eyes anyway. You’ve officially got chunky lil legs and arms. I just wanna bite em! And those limbs are constantly on the move, especially when you’re laying on your playmat. You love to look around and you’re starting to swat at things in front of you. That includes pulling Mommy’s hair – ouch!
Two-Month Stats: Pediatrician appointment is Tuesday,, stay tuned!
