It’s been a little while! But I suppose this is close to the norm nowadays, unless by some chance I grow a third-arm. Emery is currently upstairs in his crib for his late-morning nap (wahoo!), so I’m capitalizing on this opportunity to check in!
Life has been good lately, always full of adventure. Emery, Allie and I took a road trip up to Michigan a few weeks ago, just the three of us. I was a bit apprehensive to make the trip without the hubs (he was out of town for a work conference). Honestly, I was more worried about having to handle Allie, who’s a bit of a nervous nelly in the car. But I figured if I could keep her calm, we would be fine.
The morning of departure, E & I were up early for a feeding, after which I put him back down, and proceeded to pack up the Jeep. He (thankfully) slept til about 8a, giving me plenty of time to get organized. After feeding him again and getting him dressed, we got on the road just after 9a. We stopped to get gas right away, and I let Allie out at the gas station for a quick poop – she always needs to stop shortly after starting our treks. Nervous pooper I tell ya! Emery hung out in the car for a few minutes while she took care of business (I was 10 feet away from the car at all times). I got myself a Starbucks about 15 minutes later and we made our way north! I told myself I wasn’t going to stop unless the baby started fussing, and true to form, he was an absolute angel. If it wasn’t for my stupid bladder which was ready to burst from that dang coffee, we would’ve made it without any stops. But stop we did, just once, making it to my parent’s house by early afternoon. I was so proud of my lil guy (and big girl)!
Our 5 days in the mitten were wonderful. We spent a beautiful day at the zoo with Auntie S, went on lots of walks (plus a few runs), did plenty of shopping and dining out. There were also lots of lazy nights with wine and Gigi. Though we missed Gpa (he left for a guys trip the day after we arrived), we had a blast.
We contemplated driving back home on Monday, but since Daddy was really missing us, we decided to pack up and head back Sunday afternoon. The weather was not optimal (cloudy, rainy, & bleh), but it wasn’t awful enough to stay put. We made it about 3 hours before a baby meltdown ensued. I wasn’t quite sure what it was that upset him, but he sure was wailing. We stopped at a gas station an hour from home so I could change and feed him. He (& Allie) needed quite a bit of consoling, and even after calming him down, he fussed most of the way home. But we made it safe and sound, and boy were we happy to get out of that car.
It’s been awhile since I updated ya’ll on the new house! Well, things are moving right along. No, we don’t have a move-in date yet. There’s still a fair amount left to do. But the drywall is up, the outside is almost finished, and installation of big things is beginning (ceramic tile, moldings, cabinetry)! Emery and I have been down to Indy for a few meetings with our interior designer, and he’s been a big help He can’t wait to move into his new house either! Hopefully by the holidays,,,
Remember when I mentioned having a baby photo shoot over Labor Day?? Well, Jaime sent us the DVD and every.single.picture is precious. Seriously, I’m so grateful for her work/ friendship and the opportunity to capture E on film in such a beautiful way. Check out her blog post here. And here are a few of my favs. Gosh, I love them all.
The hubs and I had a date night the other day!! There haven’t been many of these to date, so please excuse my excitement! A few months back I ordered tickets to hear Bobby Knight speak at Ball State. My man is a big IUBB fan (go Hoosiers!), so I thought it’d be a good time. We had dinner at Scotty’s beforehand and listened to the General speak afterwards. He’s quite the talker. And an entertaining one at that. There was lots of laughter listening to his coaching stories, and quite a few take-home moments as well. Though it wasn’t a late night by any means, it was fun! Thanks to our babysitters, Nicole and Tammy!
Can you believe it’s already October?? I can’t. This year has flown by. Especially these last few months. E will be 11 weeks tomorrow. Three months is just down the road. And before we know it, it’ll be time to dress him up in his Halloween costume (which I can’t WAIT to do)! September was fabulous, and this month has quite a bit in store as well, with a few more road trips, visitors, and outings planned. Until then, I’ll concentrate on enjoying every little moment. Time is surely a precious thing.
Have a happy weekend!!!
