Shut the front door, you’re already four (months old, that is 🙂 ) !!!
Wow, buddy. What a month. Full of your highest highs and also some of your lowest lows. And as I say every month at this time, you are changing before our eyes every single day. Your hair is growing, and becoming blonder too! Your little legs still have that adorable chunk that I can’t stop squeezing. And those baby blues,, pretty sure they’re here to stay.
So let’s start with the happy parts of this month! We’ve definitely had lots of smiles. From dressing up on Halloween to this past weekend’s visit from Gigi, you continue to prove to us that you’re a happy boy. You are a total chatterbox and have most certainly found your voice. You coo, you yell, and as of a couple days ago,, you laugh!! Daddy and I crack up every time you chat with us as we know our days of silence are long gone 😉
You’ve been a good nighttime sleeper since you were about 6 weeks old. Over the last month, however, you’ve started waking us up in the middle of the night a little more. And when I say a little more, I mean once a night at most. You usually start squirming around 2am and fall back to sleep after a quick feeding. I’m not quite sure what the wake-ups mean, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s not the start of a little 4-month sleep regression. I hear those are not fun at all. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
Your crib napping is still a struggle. Mommy tries to put you in your crib after you fall asleep during the day, but most of the time you resist and wake up after a very short slumber. Sometimes it’s less than 10 minutes! You seem to like sleeping everywhere BUT your crib (though you sleep great there at night). Your carseat is a favorite nap spot. And just the other day you fell asleep in your Mamaroo, which was completely shocking to me since you haven’t done that since your very early days. Oh, and you passed out on your playmate! Guess you were playing a lil too hard 😉 So we will continue to work on the crib napping. I feel a change on the horizon.
And now for the sassy parts,,
Around the end of October, you started showing some serious personality changes [I talked about them a little bit on a previous post]. In the mornings, you would still wake up happy and play contently on your playmat while Mommy enjoyed her breakfast and the Today Show. But after your morning nap, things would go downhill. Starting with a weak cry, I would hold and rock you per usual. A lot of times you would eat too. But after that, your cries morphed into screams, which morphed into wails. This was when mommy finally found out what it feels like to be helpless. Of course I thought of all the reasons why you would be crying. Were you sick? Hungry? Wet? Gassy? Teething? I have assumed more often than not that some early teething may be causing your melancholy, though there is no evidence of such. You have had Tylenol a half a dozen times just in case you were in pain. Your sassy behavior was pretty consistent for a good week or so, after which you mellowed out a bit. We cried a lot together during those times. But we made it through, which gives me confidence that when these episodes come around again (probably sooner than later), we will make it out alive.
Daddy said it best last night,, you’re four months old. We should expect you to be unhappy at times. Everyone is! So as long as you go easy on us every now and then, we will get through the craziness together.
