Wow, long time no blog! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, etc etc!! I’ve been wanting to write this post for SO long now. But finding the time to do so has been a serious challenge with all that’s been going on. I even started writing over 10 days ago and am just now getting around to publishing it. Therefore, settle in! There is SO much I need to catch ya’ll up on!
My last post was Emery’s 5 month update, which was on 12/21 (eek, again – sorry!). A few days after that, we celebrated his first Christmas! Since my hubby was on call on Christmas Eve, we decided early on that we weren’t going to do any traveling this year. And I’m so glad we didn’t, because he worked until almost 10p that night. Any attempt at driving would’ve been a tiring mess.
E is still a little too young to understand what Christmas is all about, so we kind of had a free pass to be a little lazy [probably for the last time]. We woke up casually as a family, enjoyed some monkey bread and coffee, and watched Emery “open” a few presents by the fire. The hubs and I decided to forego gifts this year as our big gift to each other would be our new home (which we would move into a few days later!)!
E took advantage of the lazy morning and snuggled up with Daddy for his morning nap.
Grandma and Grandpa C arrived late morning, followed by Aunt Heather, and cousins Landon, Brendon, Jadon and Max. We all enjoyed a nice lunch together prepared by Grandma and later opened more gifts. E got a TON of new clothes as well as a bunch of fun toys, all unwrapped by yours truly 🙂
During some downtime, I started preparing dinner: my first roast [beast!] and cheesy potatoes. Just as the food finished cooking, our next set of visitors arrived. Grandpa, Gigi and Griffin pulled in around 7p with hugs, kisses, and a car full of more goodies. Apparently no one got the memo that we were moving in a couple days 😉 After dinner (which turned out great!), we put the babe down, opened more gifts, and watched Christmas Vacation. It was a wonderful day and a memorable first Christmas for Emery!
The next two days were spent packing up the house with [massive] help from my family. I’d had movers & packers scheduled for weeks at this point, which to me apparently meant that I had to do absolutely nothing to prepare. Wrong. In hindsight, I SO wish I had spent more time sorting, organizing, and packing myself. Not to mention getting rid of so much stuff that had been in a box since the last time we moved. That way when I unpacked, things would be in better order. Instead I spent most of Thursday and Friday trying frantically to get stuff together before the packers arrived. Kind of like when you clean before the cleaning lady comes? Yeah like that. Well, we made a little progress, but realized what real progress was once the movers arrived Friday morning. Those guys meant business. Granted they just went room by room and threw everything in boxes. But still. They worked furiously from 9-2, after which our house looked something like this.
Someone wasn’t much help,,,
After our last night in our “empty” house, we woke bright and early. Movers arrived at 8a to load up their huge truck. Mom (Emery) and I spent the last few hours cleaning up our mess and snapping pics.
It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day to move!
Just before noon, we loaded the rest of our stuff and got on the road. I assumed I would be incredibly emotional leaving this home. After all, it was our first place in Indiana. The place we brought our first baby home to. The town I ran hundreds of miles around. And a house with the most beautiful 2.5 acre yard you could imagine. But incredibly enough, I didn’t even shed a tear. I know, I even surprised myself. I think the anticipation of getting into our new home, the place we have put our blood, sweat and tears into over the past year and a half, was too exciting to let any sadness creep in. So we exchanged those tears for smiles! Here’s to the future!!
Both of our families stayed in town for a number of days after our move, helping us unpack and organize our new home. They were extremely helpful, especially when it came to watching Emery while I unpacked a few boxes or ran a load of laundry. It’s a miracle what you can accomplish with two free hands! We left the house very little those first few days in attempts to get as situated as possible. And situated we got! Our agenda was to empty as many boxes as possible so we’re forced to put things in their place. It worked!
I promise I’ll post more pictures of the house once things are better organized. It’s still mostly messy and unfurnished, so please be patient! For now, here’s a sneak peek of our kitchen.
New Years Eve was spent at home. We debated going to our addition’s clubhouse for their annual party, but opted to hang out in our new place with our boy in our jams. It was quite nice. And I’m pretty sure we didn’t even make it to midnight. Oops 😉 NYE is overrated anyway, right Mom?
Since the new year, it’s been a blur. We had a huge snowstorm (~ 14 inches) the weekend after we moved (told ya we picked a good day!) and were housebound for a number of days due to bad roads and sub-zero temperatures. Even the hubs had a few unanticipated days off of work! Luckily I’m not that susceptible to cabin fever and handled things pretty well. Lots of things inside to keep busy with. Plus, at least it was beautiful from the inside out.
The hubs has since returned to work while E and I have tried to establish some sort of a routine at our new place. He and I started swim classes and Gymboree Play N Learn a few weeks ago. He’s been rockin’ and rollin’ with his solids. We’ve taken a few nice walks with Allie in our new subdivision. And of course, he continues to grow. Too fast in my opinion. His latest development: rolling across the floor with a liiiiittle bit of scooting! He’ll be on the move before you know it.
It took Allie a little time to adjust to her new home. She’s been very clingy, not wanting to go much further than the garage. I’m pretty sure she’s worried we’re going to leave her here. But over the last few weeks she’s adjusted well. Daddy drops her off at her old doggie day care a few times a week, which she loves. And the above-mentioned walks have been good for her. She’ll be just fine. It’s just been an adjustment for all of us!
So that’s what’s been happening as of late! It’s so nice to finally be home. It’s been a long time coming. I’ll have Emery’s 6 month update for ya’ll this week (omg, seriously?). Happy Sunday 🙂
