Over the summer, something wacky happened with my blog, the reasons for which I still don’t understand. But let me tell you, nothing is more terrifying than knowing that something you’ve poured your heart and soul into could be gone just like that. Nothing. In an act of desperation, I turned to my blog designer, Rita, who helped me off the ledge and miraculously did some behind the scenes repairs (mind you I hadn’t worked with her in nearly 3 years). The result was a functional but not so pretty blog. Don’t get me wrong, I was so grateful!! But I took that opportunity to ask Rita if she was available to give my internet baby a much needed makeover. She agreed but told me I’d have to wait a few months for her next opening. A true test to my patience! FFWD to October when the two of us resumed our correspondence and a makeover start date of November 4th was nailed down. After completing a survey telling her what I was looking for in a new design, the work and emails began.
If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know that I’ve had a few different blog designs over the years,,,
2010-2011 / cookb823.wordpress.com
2011-2014 / nursewithapurseblog.com
And today, after nearly 2 weeks of continuous work, Rita has given me the most stunning design yet. New categories each with different headers. New colors, fonts and formats. A totally new vibe. Simple, sophisticated, and sassy all under one URL. I’m. In. Love!!
Checking out my original blog led me to read a couple of my older posts (something I love to do). It’s funny, because in this post (which is honestly one of my favorites to date), I mention my desire to hire a graphic designer so I could have a “pretty” blog. I also mention thinking about changing my blog’s name,, something I never did. Today, as I rewrote my About Me section, it got me thinking yet again. Should I change my blog name since I’m not currently practicing as a nurse? Is it misleading to new readers (all 3 of you)? If you read through my entire excerpt, I get into that a little bit. But the bottom line is that I’m still a nurse, whether I’m currently working today or not. My nursing skills just come out in different ways than they would in say a hospital. I use them to care for our son. I use them to advise family and friends. So, even though the thought to change the name crosses my mind every once and again, I still am who my blog says I am. And for that I make no excuses.
But I DID hire that graphic designer. Twice now!
And now, a much-deserved shout out. Rita, I’ve already told you how much I appreciate you, but just so you know for sure, thank you thank you thank you!!! This site is one of my babies,, and I love that you used such care while creating her a new look. It’s everything I envisioned. You are fantastic at what you do, and I can’t wait to collaborate again down the road!!
And to all my readers, new and old,, welcome!! Look around. Explore. Smile. Laugh. Fall in love with the newness. It’s because of all of you that I keep writing. So thank you too. xo.
