It’s time to FINALLY recap our April adventures in Destin, Florida!
E and I flew out of Indy at noon on Easter Sunday. Last year was a struggle getting all of our gear into the airport, and this year was no different. Suitcase, carseat backpack, carry-on, stroller, and toddler!
The check-in was going smooth, until we got through security and I realized that Mo the Monkey was missing. He must’ve fallen off my carry-on on the walk in and I was not about to attempt to go through security again to find him (too many variables). After some ugly cries in the terminal and a few texts with my hubs, I ordered a mini-Mo replacement online while E’s daddy (god love him) made a special trip to the airport parking garage for monkey retrieval. Turns out he was a few cars down from mine and some sweet person had set him on a nearby bumper. Not exactly the start I had anticipated!
The first leg of our trip was awesome. We had a great seat-mate on the plane who retrieved E’s matchbox cars off the floor and didn’t mind our toddler activities.
After a quick layover in ATL we were back on another plane for the 45 min flight into Destin. E hadn’t napped all day so about 20 minutes into the flight, he decided it was time for a snooze, which lasted all the way til we met Jaime, Luke and Jacob in the parking lot!
Because we were joined by another family this year, we ended up going with a larger condo right on the beach. It was perfect and the balcony views were GORGEOUS!!
Celebrations continued straight away!
We spent the majority of our days down by the pool, where the kiddos could swim freely without the worry of an undertow.
Emery is still taking one nap a day, so most days we would head up to the condo around noon so he could have a bite to eat then catch a few z’s. We had a little issue with him not wanting to nap in his pack n’ play, so this was the typical nap time scene,,,
& while he napped, I retreated to the balcony. Not a terrible scene.
Most of our meals were in the condo, due to the efforts required to corral, transport, and entertain all five children in one place. But we did make a few special trips out to eat, including The Crab Trap and Margaritaville.
Last year, we went on the Seablaster dolphin cruise, which was one of the highlights of the trip (falling 2nd only to wine and DQ ;)). We knew for a fact that we would do it again this year, and obviously all the kids were game. We chose the 1-3p time slot, which I knew was going to be iffy given that it was nap time. But I had high hopes since ride started out strong!
&& quickly went south,,,
And before I knew it, I had a snoozer. Total dead weight. Apparently picture perfect weather, pods upon pods of beautiful dolphins (+ babies!!), and a blazing sun was recipe for a speed boat siesta.
Thank goodness for bottomless beer 🙂
Eventually all us mamas had a sleeping babe in our arms/ laps. It was perfect, once again. Save us a seat in 2016, Seablaster!
I made it out to the beach/ boardwalk for a couple runs during our stay.
And after both runs, I was greeted by Aunt Jaime & E on the balcony, eagerly awaiting my return. The cutest.
We made it down to play on the beach a few times too! E was a fan of the sand.
And of course we took group trips to the finest food establishments in Destin. Only the best.
No flu bugs could keep us down, though they sure tried!!
Our five days in paradise SPED by in the blink of an eye. It was almost unfair when Friday morning came to the tune of a 5a wake up call. Made even worse by the 4 hour airport delay in ATL. Thankfully I had a tired babe on my hands who went from this,,
,,, to this!
The flight home went just as well as the way down, with the help of the iPad. As always, we were welcomed back home with open arms.
Oh! And Mini Mo (aka Mee-Mo) made it to Florida on Tuesday and safely back home as well. Phew!!
Thanks to Jaime, April, Luke, Avery, Jacob, and Isaiah for yet another awesome adventure! Cannot wait for next year!
